– 12 noon_ *Position Summary* The Senior Accounting Clerk for the Diocese of Lafayette is responsible for working directly with parish and school bookkeepers as well as Pastors and Principals to assist in proper accounting of activities and the following of Financial Policies of the Diocese of Lafayette.
The person in this position is called to provide a Christian, compassionate, and professional personality in all aspects of day-to-day operations, with complete confidentiality.
The Senior Accounting Clerk must be a team player who shares and participates in the vision and goals of the Bishop and of the Diocese.
The person in this position follows the established working hours of the Diocese of Lafayette Central Office and shall follow all diocesan and office policies, procedures, and regulations.
_*Essential Functions*_*:* 1.
Review multiple Church Parish Books on a monthly basis and give assistance in accounting and program use 2.
Review multiple School Books on a monthly basis and give assistance in accounting and program use 3.
Receive and process daily mail and answer direct phone line 4.
Operate as bookkeeper for parishes 5.
Assist co-workers in review of school and mausoleum entries 6.
Assist in accounting program problems and assist bookkeepers in program reports and updates 7.
Assists with scheduling and preparation of bookkeeping training sessions _*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*_ Review of Church Parishes: § Organize information such as Bank Statements, Savings Statements, Investments Statements, Payroll Reports and print necessary documents for review § Work closely with bookkeeper for proper accounting of Parish income and expense § Send a review to Parish Bookkeeper on needed changes and/or advising that books are ready to close § Organize monthly reports on each Parish in proper database and paper file Review of School Books: § Organize information such as Bank Statement, Savings Statements, Investment Statements, Payroll Reports, and print necessary documents for review § Work closely with bookkeeper for proper accounting of Schools income and expense § Send a review to School Bookkeeper on needed changes and/or advise that books are ready to close § Organize monthly reports on each School in proper database and paper file Receive and process daily mail and answer direct phone line: § Check Remittance Form for accuracy and organize for monthly review § Answer and assist bookkeepers with accounting questions Operate as Bookkeeper for parishes: § Enter income and expenses in accounting program § Reconcile all bank accounts § Review books for any errors.
Print monthly Financial Reports and mail to Priest for review § Process all Payroll Tax Reports on a Quarterly and End of Year basis § Advise Priest on any findings that may help him in his decisions on financial matters § Be available to answer any questions he may have Assist Co-workers in daily job duties: § Assist in answering questions on school’s Chart of Account in fund accounting § Assist in answering questions on Mausoleum entries § Assist in program problems and how to resolve § Cover phone calls and mail when co-worker is unavailable Assist in accounting program and reports § Assist in program updates and reports as needed § Import or Export reports as required by other Diocese departments and/or location benefits Assist with scheduling and preparation of bookkeeping training sessions § Assist in reviewing material that will be presented in training sessions § Assist in set up and greeting participates § Assist when needed _*Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:*_ § Ability to maintain confidentiality § Ability to clearly communicate and interact with the many different persons who will be in contact with the office, including but not limited to clergy, religious, bookkeepers and central office personnel § Knowledge of and experience in current office-related computer system(s), including but not limited to WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK and mail-merge programs § Knowledge of payroll reporting on Federal and State levels § Proficient typing and proofreading skills as well as ability to compose and write in proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar § Must be self-motivated, prompt in performing tasks and capable of working independently § Must maintain up-to-date Safe Environment certification § High school diploma and extensive accounting experience § Minimum of five years related experience preferred _*Job Conditions/Physical Demands:*_ _The following are representative of the physical capabilities that must be met by an employee and the working conditions that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
